Lights are out in parts of New Tampa and Wesley Chapel Tuesday afternoon as severe weather moves through the area.

According to the Tampa Electric Company (TECO), a power outage caused by severe weather in the area as a result of subtropical storm Beryl has left more than 5,000 TECO customers in New Tampa and Wesley Chapel without power.

Not only are businesses and residences affected, but also traffic lights. Lights have been reported as flashing along Cross Creek Blvd. from Morris Bridge Rd. to Bruce B. Downs (BBD) Blvd. and north on BBD past Pebble Creek Blvd. Drivers should use caution when out on the roads. The Tampa Police Department has dispatched officers to the area to help move traffic along safely.

TECO’s power outage automated service reported at 3:48 p.m. that power was expected to be restored by 7:15 p.m. Stay tuned to both the New Tampa & Wesley Chapel Neighborhood News for updates.
