Body Found Floating in North Tampa Pond

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) has no leads at our press time regarding a woman’s body that was found floating in a retention pond at Ashton Park Apartments, located at 14609 Banyan Bluff Drive, near the intersection of Bearss Ave. and 22nd St.

A resident of the apartment complex called authorities around 9:15 a.m. on June 10 to report the body in the pond. HCSO’s deputies and dive team, as well as Hillsborough CountyMedical Examiner’s Office representatives were on the scene to investigate the case. A crowd soon formed on the sidewalk of Bearss Ave. as divers retrieved the woman’s body.

“The death does not appear to be suspicious,” HCSO spokesperson Larry McKinnon said at the time. “The body appears to be have been there for a few days.”

The Hillsborough Medical Examiner’s Office is currently working to discover the cause of death, added McKinnon. — Sean Bowes
