At our press time, prosecutors and public defenders were both still trying to analyze 93 DVDs filled with data from Julie and Parker Schencker’s personal computers, which may or may not hold any evidence in the murder of 16- year-old Calyx and 13-year-old Beau Schenecker, the couple's children.

On January 29, 2011, Julie allegedly confessed to Tampa Police Department (TPD) detectives there that she had shot her daughter and son on that day because they were “mouthy.”

The data from the computers were taken into evidence. On August 12, Julie Schenecker’s public defenders announced that she would plead insanity in the criminal case. She faces two counts of first-degree murder, and prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

On January 18, Hillsborough Circuit Judge Ashley Moody gave attorneys 45 more days for their experts to try to decipher the files. So far, neither side has been able to translate the DVDs into a legible form of evidence.

Judge Moody has asked lawyers for an update on the data problem set for the next hearing on March 14.
