Boil Water Notice Lifted For New Tampa Residents
Traffic creeps along BBD next to the broken water main in Tampa Palms.
New Tampa residents can finally enjoy a cold glass of water without boiling it.
As of May 7, the Tampa Water Department (TWD) has lifted the Boil Water Notice that has been in effect since a water transmission main rupture disrupted water service for New Tampa residents on May 4.
The water main rupture just south of the intersection of Bruce B. Downs (BBD) Blvd. and Tampa Palms Blvd. left a visible crater on the east side of BBD after the pressure of the ruptured water main caused water to erupt through the paved sidewalk, spilling water onto the road and disrupting traffic. Rushing water made its way south along the side of BBD, but stopped and pooled north of Amberly Dr.
The Tampa Police Department (TPD) closed down the section of BBD between Amberly Dr. and Tampa Palms Blvd. Friday afternoon, diverting northbound traffic onto Amberly. Northbound rush hour traffic was backed up considerably along BBD as far south as Bearss Ave.
Workers from TWD responded and reported having water service restored to all New Tampa residents by Saturday, May 5.
