Things have been heating up recently in New Tampa, partly due to the warming weather, and partly due to a small brush fire on May 10.

Tampa Fire Rescue (TFR) reports that two 13-year-old boys admitted to starting a small brush fire near Freedom High School on May 10 around 6:30 p.m. The boys were apparently playing with matches, when one of them accidentally lit a small, wooded area near the 1700 block of Emerald Chase Dr. a flame.

TFR responded after a call around 6:30 p.m. and contained the fire, which burned about four acres. It took about one hour to extinguish the blaze. One of the boys in question actually made the 911 call. No injuries or propert damage were reported.
