A central Tampa man has not returned home since May 4  and may be in the Tampa Palms area of New Tampa.

According to the Tampa Police Department (TPD), Leon Nelson left his home on Powhattan Ave. in Tampa on May 4 to collect cans and hasn’t been heard from since.

Nelson, 46, suffered brain damage following an accident in 1997 and is easily confused and disoriented, says the TPD Missing Persons Report. He was last seen on May 5 near Bruce B. Downs in Tampa Palms.

Due to his condition, Nelson does not know how to get home, but has his phone number and address written on the inside of his clothing.

Nelson is about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds. He has a tattoo of a ghost on his left arm and a one-inch scar on his throat. The report says that he was last seen wearing a long-sleeved blue and white t-shirt with black cut-off shorts and a Tampa Bay Buccaneers hat.

Anyone with any information is urged to call TPD at 276-3561.
